A private museum opened in 2014 with 3,400 inventoried works, five themed galleries and 38,000 visitors a year.
Ömürhan Cultural Museum began with 1,100 works gathered over forty years by Bursa collector Ömür Hanımoğlu. So that the collection would not be dispersed and everyone could see it, the Hanımoğlu family founded the Ömürhan Culture and Education Foundation in 2014 and turned the collection into a museum in the restored spaces of a 17th-century han in Osmangazi.
Today we have 3,400 inventoried works. Displayed in five themed galleries, they tell the everyday memory of Anatolia: Gallery 1 'Clay and Fire' (ceramics), Gallery 2 'Metalworkers' (copper, brass, silver), Gallery 3 'Thread and Pattern' (textiles), Gallery 4 'Pen and Paper' (manuscripts, calligraphy, marbling) and Gallery 5 'Daily Life' (kitchen, household and family objects). The collection runs from the 6th century BCE to the mid-20th century.
To conserve and document the collection and make it accessible to visitors of every age. The museum is a not-for-profit run by an independent foundation for educational and cultural purposes; ticket and event revenue is invested in conservation and education programmes.
A team of 28 works at the museum: curators, conservators, educators and visitor-experience specialists. We run joint projects with universities, the provincial culture and tourism directorate and local craft associations. All of the museum's galleries have been renovated to be accessible to disabled visitors.
The courtyard han dating from the 17th century kept its original fabric when converted into a museum.
Audio commentary for 120 works, with a separate track for children.
Lifts, wheelchairs, tactile models and sign-language tours.
Curriculum-linked school programmes and adult workshops run every week.
Look up a work's period, material, gallery and status by inventory number.
