The story of the object

Because the jug was found in a burial chamber, its mouth and handle show almost no wear. The painted surface is applied not as a glaze but by the slip technique, a distinctive feature of local workshops of the period. In 2019 our conservators analysed the residue inside the vessel and confirmed it carried wine.
